Minimum Viable Recovery Is Hard Without Context
The business does not need everything back at once. It needs the right things back first. This is minimum viable recovery, and for most organizations the real cost of an outage is not the data they lose. It is the hours the business cannot operate.
Picture a European payments company. It starts with one stolen admin account, then spreads:
- The attacker deletes an admin group in the identity tenant to lock responders out. That group must come back first, with its memberships and app access, so the team can get back in.
- Ransomware hits hundreds of virtual machines. Only the payment VMs need to come back next, from clean copies.
- An AI agent using the compromised account’s access rewrites files in Microsoft 365. Only the files it changed need to be rolled back.
- Some of those files hold DORA-regulated data. The team needs to know exactly which ones, recover them first, and show regulators they were protected as required.
- The attacker deletes a webhook from the payments-API repository, so builds go quiet. Only that webhook needs to be restored so fixes can ship.
The business does not need everything back at once. This is why minimum viable recovery is difficult.
Getting there is not easy. Teams must know which workloads and data are business-critical, which copies are clean, what changed, and exactly what to bring back. Today, that context is scattered across people, consoles, and logs. As a result, every decision becomes harder because teams must manually piece together the full picture, riskier because gaps go unnoticed, and slower because tasks that should take minutes instead take hours. Recoveries also take longer than they should.
And AI makes this harder. Agents move at machine speed, and their changes are granular: One file edited here, one permission changed there, across millions of items. Teams cannot build resilience against a threat they never see. Resilience teams need to know exactly what changed and recover just that.
That takes precision intelligence, and it’s what iResOps delivers.
What Is Veeam Intelligent ResOps (iResOps)?
Veeam Intelligent ResOps brings precision intelligence to resilience: Intelligence across production and backup data that helps teams make precise backup, recovery, and operational decisions. Built on the DataAI Command Graph within the DataAI Command Platform, it brings together context from data center, productivity, identity, code, and DevOps workloads. This gives teams a unified view of what matters, what’s affected, and what has changed. Decisions become easier, safer, and faster, and minimum viable recovery is within reach.
Veeam Intelligent ResOps rests on five pillars:
- Contextual intelligence. Powered by the DataAI Command Graph, it connects production and backup data: What each workload holds, how it’s connected, how it’s protected, and what changed. For workloads where applicable, it adds operational context.
- Precision backup. Uses context to protect exactly what matters most. It guides the admin’s backup decisions or automates backup jobs and policies where available.
- Precision recovery. Uses context to bring back exactly what’s needed, in the order it’s needed, including Undo AI.
- Precision policies. Custom policies that act on the graph’s operational context beyond backup and recovery, such as labeling regulated data, quarantining ROT, or flagging agents.
- Agentic automation. Natural-language search and AI agents that surface context, so teams get answers and act faster.
Let’s look how these pillars come to life, starting with iResOps for Microsoft 365, which is generally available today.
iResOps for Microsoft 365: Generally Available
Microsoft 365 is where every employee works, and now thousands of agents are working there too, reading, changing, and deleting data. According to Veeam’s Data & AI Trust Gap report, only 7% of organizations qualify as truly AI-ready, even though 88% of them are already using or piloting AI agents. Microsoft 365 must be both secure and resilient before anyone can use it with agents in confidence.

With Veeam iResOps for Microsoft 365, teams can:
- Minimize compliance overhead: Continuously discover, classify, and label sensitive data and perform automated compliance checks to assess a variety of compliance requirements at once, cutting the manual work when audit season hits.
- Accelerate AI safely: Discover Copilot and the AI agents in your Microsoft 365 environment, identify what data these agents can access, and use this context to close oversharing gaps before exposure. When an agent makes a mistake, see which files it modified or deleted and restore them precisely.
- Reduce storage costs: Find redundant, obsolete, and trivial (ROT) data across your Microsoft 365 environment and quarantine it while deciding what to archive or delete with full context. Minimizing ROT data delivers benefits across the board, from reducing storage costs and keeping AI data clean to shrinking the compliance footprint and accelerating recovery.
- Drive minimum viable recovery, fast: Confirm that the business-critical data is backed up and close data protection gaps before an incident. When an incident hits, use production data context to recover the data the business needs first, thus enabling minimum viable recovery.
Here’s how that would play out for the European payments company mentioned earlier: If an AI agent rewrote files using a compromised account’s permissions, the team could identify exactly which files had changed, even among millions. Undo AI restores only the affected files. Because iResOps identifies files containing data subject to DORA requirements, teams can prioritize their recovery and provide evidence that the files were protected.
Microsoft 365 is the first productivity workload on iResOps, with Google Workspace to follow. But productivity is only one part of the estate. The same precision intelligence now reaches the data center.
Veeam iResOps for Veeam Data Platform: Private Preview
When ransomware hits hundreds of virtual machines, teams cannot recover what they cannot find. Most cannot say which VMs are protected and what data they hold, which VMs with critical data are not protected, or which backup servers are under-resourced before they miss a backup window.
Veeam iResOps for Veeam Data Platform brings the same DataAI Command Platform experience to the Veeam Backup & Replication servers you already run. Connect them in a few clicks, with no data migration. The graph maps your backup servers, the hypervisors they protect, the VMs inside them, and the files indexed within each VM.

From this, teams can see what’s fully protected and what isn’t, choose exactly which infrastructure or data to back up, and recover anything from a single file to an entire VM. They can also spot servers running short on resources before they miss a backup or recovery point, and ask agents questions to produce audit evidence and custom reports in minutes.
For the payments company, that means finding the payment VMs among the hundreds affected, confirming they’re backed up, locating the last known-good restore point, and recovering only those VMs.
The Private Preview is now open to qualified customers. A restored workload is only effective if people can log in to it, so identity needs the same precision resilience.
Veeam iResOps for Okta: Private Preview
Identity providers are among the most critical systems a company runs. If one is disrupted, whether by an honest mistake or a deliberate attack, employees can’t log in to anything connected to it. That’s why identity needs more than protection after the fact. It needs safeguards that reduce the chance of disruption, and a fast way back when it happens.
That’s why Veeam is expanding Intelligent ResOps to identity systems, starting with Veeam iResOps for Okta. It brings the same DataAI Command Platform experience to your identity estate, building on the identity resilience Veeam already offers for Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.

Once connected, teams can create immutable restore points for the whole identity estate, Assess the live tenant against a known-good state to see what changed and when, restore objects with their relationships, compare versions of objects and configurations and apply different backup policies to different datasets.
For the payments company, that means seeing who was in the deleted admin group and what it gave them access to, restoring just that group with its memberships and app access, and leaving every other change in the tenant untouched.
Veeam iResOps for Okta is now available for Private Preview. Additional identity systems, such as Google IAM, AWS IAM, and Azure IAM are planned to follow. Identity resilience helps ensure that people can regain access. But much of what the business relies on, from applications to the pipelines, lives in code, and AI agents now write that code at machine speed, every day. Here’s how iResOps brings the same precision resilience to code and DevOps workloads. to code and DevOps workloads.
iResOps for Code and DevOps: Private Preview
Code is increasingly written by agents, at machine speed, so one bad run can affect hundreds of repositories. A force-push can rewrite a branch’s history. A deleted repository may or may not be recoverable. And if administrative access is compromised, disruption can turn into permanent loss.
Veeam iResOps for Code and DevOps creates immutable restore points for the objects that matter: Code and branches, CI/CD pipelines, settings and rulesets, issues and pull requests (with reviews and wikis), members, teams, and permissions, and the logs worth preserving. When something breaks, teams restore exactly what broke, whether that’s one setting, one webhook, or one repo, instead of rebuilding everything. For the payments company, that’s the deleted webhook, restored without losing the new branch the team just created.
Private Preview for Github and Azure DevOps is coming soon. Stay tuned to learn more.
Minimum Viable Recovery with iResOps
With Veeam Intelligent ResOps, the European payments company’s team does not need to wait for everything to come back. It restores what the business needs, in the order it needs it:
- Identity (Okta): Restore the deleted admin group with its memberships and app access, so responders can log back in.
- Data center (Veeam Data Platform): Restore only the affected payment VMs from their last known-good restore points, rather than restoring all 400 VMs.
- Productivity (Microsoft 365): Undo only the files the agent changed, starting with the DORA-regulated data.
- Code and DevOps: Restore the deleted webhook without losing anything else in the repository.
The payments application is back, and everything else follows in order. That’s minimum viable recovery.
Beyond Resilience
Intelligent ResOps helps infrastructure and backup teams go beyond resilience. Security, privacy, and compliance teams set the rules, but infrastructure and backup teams run the systems where those rules are applied. With precise context about every workload, they become the partner other teams rely on to turn rules into action and proof.
AI adoption shows how. When the business wants to turn on AI agents, infrastructure and backup teams can roll them out with guardrails: Knowing exactly what each agent can reach, cleaning up overshared and stale data first, and undoing an agent’s changes if something goes wrong.
The same context helps them enforce policy faster, acting precisely on what other teams flag, from where data and its backups are stored to who can access sensitive data. It strengthens incident response by providing security teams with clean recovery copies and a precise record of what changed. And it makes audits easier, with proof of what was protected, how the identity tenant was configured on a past date, and code activity beyond GitHub’s seven-day window.
For infrastructure and backup teams, that means a bigger role across the business, backed by the context to deliver on it.
